about

Inspired by a Zimbabwean harvest song, the name Mvura Ichanaya means 'the rain shall fall' in Shona - one of the main languages spoken in Zimbabwe. I started playing the marimba in 1998 at Thornhill Primary School in Botswana, and have since learnt an incredible amount from the various mentors, musicians and friends I have had the privilege of working with, and learning from. I consider the past two decades a period of gathering and sowing seeds, and my hope is that this debut album will be the metaphorical rain that allows my seeds to take their first step towards becoming fruit bearing trees.
