Religion was never forced on me growing up, but it was very much present in my upbringing through my grandmother particularly, but also in society in Botswana in general. I very much enjoyed going to church as a child, mostly for the hymns which I was particularly fond of singing. I wanted to acknowledge this aspect of my upbringing by including one of my favourite southern African gospel songs, Hlonolofatsa, on this debut album. The lyrics are in Sesotho, and it is a song that is popular right across southern Africa.
