about

Dineo means 'gifts' in Setswana - the national language spoken in Botswana. This song seeks to remind parents that children are gifted differently. Those who may lack in academic talents should never be given up on, or seen as inferior, or failures. Our talents come in many different forms, and as a society, we should help our children and one another realise what we are passionate about, and where our talents lie. We should encourage one another to develop the gifts we are born with.

lyrics

Ngwana wa ga ausi’Mpho (Sister Mpho’s child)
O isitswe morakeng (Has been taken to the cattlepost)
O isitswe morakeng? (S/he’s been taken to the cattlepost?)
O palelwa ke sekolo (S/he’s struggling at school)
Dineo tsa modimo (God-given gifts)
Ga di tle ka go tshwana (Are never the same)
Ga a palelwa ke sekolo (If s/he struggles at school)
Se tlhoboge, se latlhe ngwana (Don’t give up, don’t neglect a child)
